Mary Hodgson, nee Cadman, was born and grew up in Ipswich close to the Suffolk coast, attending Ipswich High School for Girls GPDST and then Sheffield University where she obtained a Masters degree in English. She taught for two years at Great Yarmouth High School for Girls. After her marriage she moved to the Wirral where her three children were born. She then taught at Carlett Park College of Further Education and later took Creative Writing courses for the WEA. On retirement she has found more time for her own writing. Mary Hodgson has helped many others to discover their own writing talent and gift for poetry. Here she demonstrates her own poetic powers. Her lively imagination conjures up deep thoughts from shore and sea, from unearthed relics of the past, from memories of nature and its living presence. She asks profound human questions from personal experience, with insight, humour and compassion.
