Nancy Field has BS in biology and science education from the Univ. of Wisconsin and an MS in wildlife biology from South Dakota State Univ. She has been certified by the Wildlife Society as an associate wildlife biologist. Since co-organizing the first Earth Day at South Dakota State University in 1970, she has aimed to help children develop a love for nature and an environmental ethic. She is the author of twelve interactive nature books for children, several best sellers. Over 80,000 copies of Discovering Endangered Species have been sold since 1990. She has taught at the junior high, senior high and several colleges, including Bellevue Community College, Bellevue, Wash, Western Oregon State College, Monmouth, Oregon and Oregon State University, Corvallis, Or. She has taught college classes on the principles of biology and environmental education to future elementary teachers. She is the mother of three and the grandmother of two young children. She lives in Middleton,Wisconsin where her husband is a professor in forestry. Sally Machlis is an assistant professor of art and art education at the University of Idaho. She exhibits her mixed media collages and paintings nationally. She lives in Moscow, Idaho with her husband Gary, a professor in forest resources. She is the parent of two daughters.
