About the Author:
Dorothy Butler is a teacher, bookseller, author, and children's literature advocate known and respected throughout the world. She lives in New Zealand, where she enjoys reading as often as she can with her twenty-one grandchildren.
From Publishers Weekly:
Mabel's journey to her new home with her friend Charles runs on anything but an even keel. Unhappily, she cannot afford train fare; happily, her pilot friend Maud offers her a ride. Unhappily, Maud is not a very good pilot, and she tips Mabel out of the plane; happily, there is a haystack below. . . . There is up after down after up, but it all ends--how else?-- happily . This simple tale contains much lighthearted fun in the absurdity of fortunes that reverse themselves by the minute, and its rhythmic, deliberately repetitive style will soon have children chiming in. The illustrations are marked by a loose line that jauntily captures the story's offbeat characters and relentless pace, making this a most amiable and entertaining excursion all around. Ages 3-8.

Book Description Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good - & No DJ. Hurford, John (illustrator). First U.S. Edition. Two books from Dorothy Butler and John Hurford who are/is my absolutely favourite children's book team! Ms. Butler is an ex-schoolteacher with many children who wrote Babies Need Books and other landmark books about children and reading (Cushla and her books) and the totally wonderful Another Happy Tale about a baby who loves to frolic in the pigpen. John Hurford was a psychedelic artist in the 1960's, and has now perfected the best glaring baby study ever (see [photo, that glare is aimed at those who think babies shouldn't crawl around in pig pens!). A Happy Tale is is a near fine First U.S. Edition in near fine condition in a very good minus dj which is unclipped and shiny and newish, but has a one inch and a five inch tear. Another Happy Tale is near fine and has no dj. Also a first. Seller Inventory # 001543
