When Bill Moyers interviewed George Lucas before the release of Star Wars: Episode I, he said, "One explanation for the popularity of Star Wars when it appeared is that by the end of the 1970's, the hunger for spiritual experience was no longer being satisfied sufficiently by the traditional vessels of faith."

Lucas responded, "I put the force into the movie in order to try to awaken a certain kind of spirituality in young people-more a belief in God than a belief in any particular religious system. I wanted to make it so that young people would begin to ask questions about the mystery. Not having enough interest in the mysteries of life to ask the question, 'Is there a God or is there not a God?'-that is for me the worst thing that can happen. I think that you should have an opinion about that. Or you should be saying, "I'm looking. I'm very curious about this, and I am going to continue to look until I can find an answer, and if I can't find an answer, then I am going to die trying." I think it's important to have a belief system and to have faith."

Star Wars does get people thinking about the supernatural. The story parallels the theme of the Bible, a struggle between the supernatural evil force and the supernatural good force. George Lucas said the way that he prepared for producing the Star Wars movie: "I basically worked out a general theory for the force, and then I played with it...The real essence was to try to deal with the force but not be too specific about it. The force has two halves: Ashla, the good, and Bogan, the paraforce of evil."

Star Wars presents life as a constant struggle with the dark force. Likewise, the Bible paints life as a struggle with the "rulers of the darkness:" "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places" (Ephesians 6:12). Star Wars gives insights into how some are swept away by the evil Empire, while others stand in victory against it.

The movie series also gives tremendous lessons in personal victory over the trials and temptations of the dark force. The story closed with an exciting climax which closely parallels the Bible's prophecy.

In Star Wars, George Lucas seeks to lead people to question the existence of God and to move them to seek Him. In this book I am presenting answers to the big questions about God and a way to personally know Him through Jesus Christ.

About the Author:

Moody Adams was born in rural Louisiana. He went to work for A&P Grocery Stores at the age of 14, married at the age of 16, and was made assistant manager of an A&P at the age of 19.

At the age of 20, his wife Betty persuaded him to attend an evangelistic crusade where he heard his first sermon on being born again. That night he received Christ. The next morning he rounded up the store employees before work and preached his first sermon. Shortly after, he started preaching in homes and outside saloons.

In 1858, Moody launched an evangelistic ministry that has enabled him to preach to 8 million people in person, and has seen over 300,000 decisions made for Christ. He has appeared on the platform with Paul Harvey, Vice President Al Gore, Coach Bobby Bowden, Ollie North and Dale Evans.

Being "detained" in Cuba by Castro, and police in Macedonia, debating atheists on television, and preaching in Red Square in 1976, resulted in the Miami Herald labeling him America's "Front-line Evangelist."
