From the Author:
Though F Magazine publishes a wide variety of works (this issue includes short stories, poetry, and a roundtable discussion on race, culture, and the writer's voice), the primary focus is on the novel. Each of f4's novels-in-progress demonstrates a sophisticated and unique approach to story, but the connecting thread is a decidedly democratic authorial sense of audience. The selections within explore the complexities of war, romantic love, family relationships, gender issues, and countless other enigmas of modern life. In today's world, for a multitude of reasons, the author who aims at reaching the broadest possible audience with a literary novel faces a steep, uphill battle. But I believe the excerpts f4 show that it is still a noble goal. This issue also introduces F Gallery, featuring short movements from across the contemporary fiction spectrum. -- Don Gennaro De Grazia - Managing Editor
