About the Author:
Stewart Edward White
1873-1946

White was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, of Thomas Stewart and Mary White. His father was a millionaire lumberman and Stewart was educated by tutors. He did not attend public school in early life. His interest in firearms and hunting was prompted by an outdoorsman father, interests to which Stewart paid homage all his life.

Thomas White bought a ranch in California and in 1884 the family moved there, remaining for four years before returning to Michigan. Here, White acquired the mortar which bonded the bricks of his career in writing and his love for hunting and shooting.

His prolific writing career spanned about 64 years and totaled almost a book a year. In his interesting writing style, he wrote 24 nonfiction titles and 34 fiction, some of an autobiographical nature. His three African safaris, 1910, 1913 and 1925, gave him a large reservoir of hunting experiences to draw from. His 1913 hunt lasted 22 months.

"Nothing can equal the intense interest of the most ordinary walk in Africa,"he said."It is the only country I know where a man is thoroughly and continuously alive."

Stewart Edward White was a successful man and a noted American rifleman of his time. He was more than a rifleman, however, and more than a hunter, for he assessed the environment around him and froze time with his words, verbally illustrating historical notes for all to read into the future.
Review:
Stewart Edward White is credited with writing more than 60 books. Most are fiction, but all are based on fact. Eight of these books, however, deal with White's personal experiences as a hunter and in the out-of-doors. Four are accounts of his African safaris. And what fascinating reading!

Since these books have been out of print for more than 60 years, it is no wonder the works of Stewart Edward White are not better known.
Wolfe Publishing Company has reprinted the eight outdoor/hunting books in a limited edition of 1,000.

The available titles are:
The Mountains
The Rediscovered Country
Camp and Trail
The Forest

Here is a rare set of outdoor
adventure books.

The active life was extremely important to White. Sportsmanship and chance were very much a part of his character. "If you do not like that sort of game, stay out of it entirely," said White, the man of action. --Wolfe Publishing Company - Dave Wolfe - Publisher
