About the Author:
This anthology contains the work of five women writers. They include college teachers, psychotherapists and a journalist; their careers have encouraged a shared inclination to reflect on and communicate our thoughts about the human condition. They also represent the merged core memberships of two different writing groups, one of which has been meeting for more than twenty years. In this long creative association, the authors have struggled to understand what makes a poem either ''lightning'' or ''lightning bug,'' to paraphrase Mark Twain.
Review:
The Physics of Longing represents a collective of spirit, of five friends writing poems toward a shared goal: to present the world as a place of beauty and loss, memory and desire, seasons and senses. The range of experience is remarkable and remarkably expressed. Landscapes come into play, from Mexico to Maine (there's even a place called Dangerland). Mostly these poems are about personal passions, the poets, in Terry Hilt's words, stitching 'the long expanding quilts' of their lives. The patterns draw us in. --Carl Little, poet & critic

One of the things that keeps poetry vital is the connection that develops when writers share their most intimate work. This collection, by five talented women writers, celebrates that abiding friendship with beautifully crafted poems that speak to lived experience in profound and necessary ways. This is an exciting and inspiring debut. --Kendra Kopelke, University of Baltimore, Co-editor, Passager
