Relief comes in the form of a referral to defend the estate of Duke MacKenzie in Hibbing. MacKenzie shot an intruder, the abusive husband of the woman who was a that moment in his bedroom, and then ran off into the woods, where he apparently turned the gun on himself. Now the wounded husband is suing the estate. DixonÕs search for the truth behind the bizarre events takes him to Hibbing, where he learns that some of the locals may be a lot more clever than they are letting on.
Some of the novelÕs plotting and explanations are a little weak, but Gust writes easily, and his courtroom scenes are a riveting, skillful display of the art of interrogation. --Star Tribune, Sept. 2005
