Robert S. Allen is the Deputy Chief, Treaties and Historical Research Centre, Research Branch, Corporate Policy in the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs. Born in Toronto, he was educated at Mount Allison, Dalhousie, and Queen's Universities and at University College of Wales (Aberystwyth).
His previous publications have focused on Military, Native, and Loyalist History, including The British Indian Department and the Frontier in North America, 1755-1830, (1975). He is at present the general editor and contributor to The Loyal Americans, the Canadian War Museum exhibition catalogue prepeared on the occasion of the Loyalist Bicentennial in Canada (1983-1984).
