A collection of recipes and artwork from around Virginia, Masterpieces: A Celebration of Food and Art in Virginia, commemorates the 50th anniversary of The Council of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. The second cookbook published by The Council, Masterpieces contains eighty-three recipes contributed by employees and supporters of Virginia arts organizations.
Recipes range from the simplest, such as "Boursin Cheese Spread," to the more ambitious "Maestro Lobster Ravioli with Bisque Sauce," and from the traditional "Monticello Muffins," to the contemporary "Pistachio-Crusted Rockfish." The recipes, and the artworks that mirror them, represent the rich diversity of two of Virginia's most precious resources: her abundant food and spectacular art.

"Masterpieces: A Celebration of Food and Art in Virginia", commemorates the 50th Anniversary of The Council of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. The second cookbook published by The Council, "Masterpieces" contains eighty-three recipes contributed by employees and supporters of Virginia arts organizations. We are delighted to include wonderful recipes from former first ladies of Virginia, Lynda Johnson Robb and Virginia Holton: Alma Powell; chefs from VMFA, The Governor's Mansion, The Jefferson Hotel, Barboursville Vineyards, The Trellis and others.

Recipes range from the simplest such as "Boursin Cheese Spread," to the more ambitious "Maestro Lobster Ravioli with Bisque Sauce," and from the traditional "Monticello Muffins," to the contemporary "Pistachio-Crusted Rockfish." The recipes, and the artworks that mirror them, represent the rich diversity of two of Virginia's most precious resources: her abundant food and spectacular art.

Since 1955, the volunteer membership of The Council has offered leadership, service and financial support to VMFA's collection and far-reaching programs. In so many ways, they have made our Virginia an even more beautiful place to live.

About the Author:
Terry Ward Libby authored "The Hunter's Table" and "Creative Coastal Cooking" and was a contributor to "The Unofficial Guide to Ethnic Dining in the USA". She has written hundreds of reviews and articles on food, the restuarant industry, travel and business. Libby was a writing instructor at the Ohio State Department of English and former speech and document writer for former Ohio Governor Richard F. Celeste from 1982-90.
