He argues, via gargantuan investigation, that IPS's hidden agenda places it radically to the left of traditional "progressive liberals." Despite the author's careful documentation, the reader has a sense of 1950s deja vu: Powell finds Communists or "fellow travelers" within academia, the religious left, and among former government operatives. To the casual reader, this work could be frightening; more seasoned observers may discard it. Still, the book provides insights into interest groups' pathways to power.
