About the Author:

Mike Livingston is a freelance editor and writer whose clients include the Citizen Policies Institute, Conservation International, Legal Times, Nonprofit Watch, the Points of Light Foundation, Roll Call, and the Washington Business Journal. He was born in Washington, D.C. and currently lives in Takoma Park, Maryland. He is the lead author of the Newcomer’s Handbook® for Washington, D.C., 3rd edition, published by First Books in 2002, and is currently working on the 4th edition. Mike was the Green Party candidate for D.C.’s "shadow" seat in Congress in 1998. He remains active in Green politics and is also an emergency medical technician and CPR instructor with the Takoma Park Volunteer Fire Department. He graduated from Guilford College in 1993 with a B.A. in political science and peace studies.
