'This is genuine poetry, in love with the beautiful surface of things and searching all the time for what lies below the surface. His feet may be on the ground, but his head is in the clouds; as he says in 'Hang Glider', 'it is our dicing solitary selves we grapple with up there.' He begins very definetely in Gloustershire: in Stancombe Park, Coaley Peak, Uley, with dead Ivor Gurney. But his imagination won't let him alone; like the kids who see a fair parked in a lay-by: 'we try to impress themwith a road's realitiesbut...the images leak through' - U.A. Fanthorpe.

About the Author:
David Ashbee lives in Gloucestershire where he has run the reading-group HOLUB for 30 years. He is a member of The Cherington Poets and The Cheltenham Poetry Society. His work has been published in South West Review and Westwords, broadcast on BBC TV and Radio 4 and has won himn a South West Arts Award.
Review:
I recommend these poems for their humanity. Ashbee has the knack of stepping back suddenly from a familiar scene to show it framed by questions and uncertanties. But he never loses his affection for the here-and-now. The eye he casts on life and death is never cold.
