From Library Journal:
Nearly 600 print and broadcast journalists from the 1600s to the present are profiled in this informative and affordable collection of biographical sketches. It will supplement the highly selective Dictionary of Literary Biography volumes on newspaper and magazine journalists and the Encyclopedia of Twentieth Century Journalists ( LJ 6/1/86). It is rich in 18th and 19th century biography, but alas journalists of the "present" are only the most high-profile names. And even then, prominent persons such as Janet Chusmir and Katherine Fanning (mentioned only in the introduction), Nelson Poynter, John Sengstacke, etc., are omitted. Some entries run two pages, others are quite brief. The introduction contains short essays on censorship, women journalists, etc. Useful for ready reference, students can use this as a starting point for further historical research.
