PreSchool-Grade 2 --On a New England farm, a young girl awakens from her dream, rouses her little brother, and the two go out to join their mother in the pasture where Clover the sheep has just lambed. After the ewe and her lamb are settled in the warm barn and the rest of the family is asleep, the wakeful narrator watches hopefully from the house for more births. The first-person narrative conveys sweetness and subdued excitement with no unnecessary words. The watercolor sketches are unfinished but not incomplete; they are true to the emotion and setting of the story.
