About the Author:
William Muñoz has an avid interest in ecology and the environment and has taken the photographs for a number of books written by Dorothy Hinshaw Patent. Mr. Muñoz lives in Hamilton, Montana.

Grade 4-7 A lucid, accurate rendering of the lifestyle of the grizzly bear, from salmon fishing in spring to gourmandizing at summer garbage dumps to giving birth in winter dens. Patent has been especially careful in explaining the bear's winter sleep, radically different from that of other hibernators. There is also a clear presentation of the problems arising when bear and human cross paths, and of the studies done to help preserve grizzlies outside a zoo. Clear black-and-white photos appear on almost every page and show grizzlies in their daily life and being examined by environmentalists. This will certainly be useful to report writers, and it fills a gap. No other book for this age group covers the grizzly so competently and completely.
