K-Gr 2--Two titles for beginning readers. The texts are in bold print against clear crisp backgrounds, and the full-color illustrations will help new readers decode the words. "Gator's Out" involves animals on the run from an alligator; Pigouts revolves around bad-mannered children. Although similar in size to the "Rookie Reader" series (Children's Press), these books do not include lists of the words from the texts that many parents find helpful. It is unlikely that emerging readers would be drawn to these books on their own as the pictures are not especially appealing. Mediocre fare for the easy-to-read shelves.
