About the Author:

Dr. Mark Maslin is the author of over 60 articles and books on past and future climate change. He has been involved in three major ocean drilling expeditions to the central North Atlantic, the Amazon delta and deep-sea fan complex, and the southwest African coast. He is a lecturer at the Environmental Change Research Centre, Department of Geography, University College London.

From School Library Journal:
Adult/High School-Maslin defines and gives a brief overview of the problem, then continues with chapters on the producers of pollution, the evidence and impacts of global warming, and what we can do about it. One chapter describes the devastation that could accompany changes to the Gulf Stream and the Amazon rain forest and/or the release of gas hydrates that "lurk- [b]elow the world's oceans and permafrost." The author states unequivocally that global warming is due, in large part, to human activity. He also maintains that a strong worldwide commitment to reducing greenhouse gases, combined with immediate adaptation mechanisms such as the development of alternative energy sources, will reduce or prevent its worst potential consequences. A short list of recommended readings relies heavily on scientific reports. More than 50 color photos and charts explicate the text.
