In 1966, Gardner compiled a little yellow booklet as a way of encouraging people to take responsibility for their own health and as an introduction to natural and preventive medicine. This greatly expanded edition offers safe, effective, natural health care information for adults and children.

Garlic Suppositories:
If you start to get the symptoms of vaginitis (offensive odor, itch, excessive discharge)...you can usually get rid of the infection by immediately treating with garlic. You don't even have to know what kind of infection you are harboring because garlic is effective for all kinds, particularly if it is used in the early stages. Prepare a garlic suppository by carefully peeling one small or medium-size clove of garlic. Dip it in vegetable oil (to prevent burning) and insert it into the vagina like a tampon....Remove the garlic every 12 hours and insert a fresh clove. Do this for 3 to 5 days.
Review:
Healing Yourself is filled with tips and advice from Joy Gardner's personal experience. She covers the "female complaints" like menstrual problems and vaginal infections, as well as giving remedies for all sorts of other conditions from acne to gallstones. For each condition she offers up to a dozen possible treatments, most of them herbal remedies. What really sets this book apart is that Joy includes very specific instructions for preparing and administering each remedy. Healing Yourself is not a dry reference book; it is a useful, personable and practical guide for anyone who wants to use herbs to treat herself or her family. -- From The WomanSource Catalog & Review: Tools for Connecting the Community for Women; review by FGP
