From School Library Journal:
Grade 7-10-- Surprisingly little is known about Archimedes. His mathematical and scientific ideas were committed to writing but many legends surround his life and personality. This biography places Archimedes in history showing that some of his contributions were commissioned by his king, sometimes in the conduct of war. Archimedes was influenced by other thinkers whose contributions are introduced. There are a few black-and-white photographs and pen-and-ink diagrams, but there aren't enough diagrams to make Archimedes' ideas accessible to the intended audience. Libraries owning Arthur Jonas' Archimedes and His Wonderful Discoveries (Prentice Hall, 1963; o.p.), illustrated by Aliki, need not buy this book. --Margaret M. Hagel, Norfolk Public Library System, Va.
