This volume examines childhood socialization from a number of perspectives, from various disciplines. It discusses the social development of preschool and young elementary school-aged children. Four themes serve as organizing components: childhood socialization is importantly dependent upon agents of socialization, specifically, parents, teachers peers, and is highly contingent upon language and processes of interaction; and children who are developmentally delayed through conditions of social or physical handicap may require special consideration in their socialization needs. Moreover, both the processes of socialization and the social lives of children are cross-culturally varied.
