About the Author:

Joseph Marshall III was born in the Rosebud (Sicangu Lakota) Indian Reservation in what is now south-central South Dakota. Marshall has published numerous articles and books, including The Dance House: Stories from Rosebud and Winter of the Holy Iron.

Review:
On Behalf of the Wolf and the First Peoples is important, well written, and long overdue. It should be in every library and on the shelves of everyone who has an interest in Native American culture. -- Roger Welsch

History and poetry blend together in these pages. I can think of no collection of essays that I've enjoyed more in recent years. This is a book that all who love the West, who are concerned about the natural world, who believe in truth and the sacredness of all life need to read. It will move them and it will give them courage. -- Joseph Bruchac
