Some people may remember the author, Bruce Kidd, as a star runner, winning gold and bronze medals in the Commonwealth Games of 1962 and as a member of the Canadian 1964 Summer Olympics team. A member of Canada's Sports Hall of Fame and Olympic Hall of Fame, in 2004 he was made an officer of the Order of Canada.
