From the Inside Flap:
Here is a well-structured guide that will be useful to you in two important ways: it will enable you to build on knowledge you already have and reinforce instructions you may currently be receiving from a trainer. Furthermore, it stresses the importance of laying a solid foundation to become a really good rider, and offers the kind of attention to detail, particularly tips and suggestions, that can help you achieve your goal.

While The Essentials of Horsemanship addresses topics that will interest you regardless of whether your preferred discipline is jumping, dressage, or eventing, it does not overlook the needs of your equine partner. Horses are complex and sensitive creatures and can as easily be upset by inappropriate feeding are they are by ill-fitting saddles, both of which can make them uncomfortable and possibly unwell. Even grooming, if carried out incorrectly, can be a potential hazard to horse and handler, which is why you'll get basic information about the horse and his keeping in this book. It does not matter if you own your own horse or use the facilities of a riding school, everything you learn can only foster a better understanding of your horse, his nature and his needs.

In time you will see that as you work on your riding skills, become adept at problem-solving, and correct your horse's weakness without losing sight of your own, all your hard work will pay off and you can look forward to success when you show.
