Abraham Between Torah and Gospel is the 2011 Pere Marquette Lecture in Theology delivered by Jon D. Levenson on March 27, 2011. Professor Levensons lecture is the forty-second in this esteemed series. Begun in 1969 under the auspices of the Marquette University Department of Theology, the series commemorates the missions and explorations of Pere Jacques Marquette, SJ (1637-75). About the Author:

Jon D. Levenson is the Albert A. List Professor of Jewish Studies at Harvard University. From Harvard University he received his B.A. summa cum laude in English, and his Ph.D. in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations. He joined the faculty of Harvard Divinity School in 1988.

Professor Levensons publications include, among others, Sinai and Zion: An Entry into the Jewish Bible (1985), Creation and the Persistence of Evil: The Jewish Drama of Divine Omnipotence (1988; second edition, 1994), The Death and Resurrection of the Beloved Son: The Transformation of Child Sacrifice in Judaism and Christianity (1993), The Hebrew Bible, the Old Testament, and Historical Criticism: Jews and Christians in Biblical Studies (1993), and Esther: A Commentary (1997).

Professor Levenson is currently working on a study of the appropriation of Abraham into Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, as well as on a critique of the notion of an Abrahamic family of religions.
