A witty, watery tale, filled with beautiful illustrations of creatures of the sea, depicts an arrogant little fish who has seen the world and thinks he is immune to danger, but who returns home to learn a hard lesson.

From School Library Journal:
Grade 1-3-Originally published in Jones's Terry Jones's Fairy Tales (Puffin, 1986), this story warns about the dangers of self-importance. Dissatisfied with the North Sea, a herring swims around the world and makes many fascinating discoveries. When he returns home, he refuses to associate with his dull friends and relations. However, a fisherman's net equalizes them all in death, and the proud herring ends up on a man's dinner plate. Foreman's illustrations of sea life are adequate but unexciting. All in all, the book is insubstantial. It's a tale that may have enriched a collection, but it lacks punch as a solo offering.
