Women's World Banking (WWB) works with locally established affiliates. It now has affiliates in twenty-eight countries, with twenty-six more in formation; the affiliates review loan applications and select recipients. WWB guarantees up to 50 percent of the loans, the affiliates 25 percent, and a local financial institution must provide 25 percent of the financing.
Size and Record: WWB's capital stands at approximately $5 million. The fund is capitalized through grants, loans, and deposits. It has participated in about twelve hundred loans with no defaults.
Investment Opportunities: Until June 1986, WWB was issuing debentures paying 8 percent. By January 1987, WWB accepted deposits paying 6 percent or donations.
