When a tanker truck crashes and explodes, down-at-the-heels lawyer Jim McSpadden hopes to represent some of the victims, but big-time attorney Rolly Sullivan gets to them first. The only client Jim can muster is Laura, widow of Danny Marcus, the truck driver whose drunken driving allegedly caused the accident. As Jim struggles to prove that a defect in the truck steering made Danny lose control, trial tactics lock Jim and Rolly in an unwelcome relationship: if one wins, the other loses, yet they must cooperate on common problems of proof. Jim's accumulation of evidence through industrial espionage provokes a violent response, escalating the game to a lethal level. Now, it's not just a matter of win or lose. His life is part of the stakes. "With high-energy courtroom scenes and plenty of cunning legal manipulations, Priddy shows that you don't have to be a high-profile author (Grisham, Turow, et al) to write a high-quality legal thriller." (BOOKLIST) LAURANCE L. PRIDDY, author of the critically acclaimed WINNING PASSION and SON OF DURANGO both published by Sunstone Press, was born in Sweetwater, Texas. He grew up in Gainsville and Fort Worth, Texas and graduated from Arlington State College and from the University of Texas School of Law. After two years in the army, he entered the practice of law in Fort Worth where he practices today. BOOKLIST called WINNING PASSION "an excellent read" while PUBLISHERS WEEKLY commented that it had "an easy authenticity."

From Booklist:
Nobody likes ambulance chasers, even if they're subtle. Take Rolly Sullivan. When the drunk driver of a commercial oil truck smashes into an otherwise harmless fender-bender pileup in San Antonio, Rolly convinces an unethical psychologist to schedule a free grief counseling session, where Rolly can "advise" the victims and their families of their rights. That's how he snatches the best clients, leaving down-on-his-luck lawyer Jim McSpadden with the dregs. Jim reluctantly agrees to represent the widow of the drunk driver, not the best victim in a personal-injury accident. Jim is an honest sort, but with both his marriage and his law partnership on the rocks, he's anxious to win, even if it means working with Rolly on overlapping aspects of their cases. Jim's desperation leads him to employ evidence-gathering methods that endanger his case and his life. With high-energy courtroom scenes and plenty of cunning legal manipulations, Priddy shows that you don't have to be a high-profile author (Grisham, Turow, et al.) to write a high-quality legal thriller.
