If you can write you can draw. Letters and numbers are made up of straight lines and curves, and so are objects. In his books, the author has taken a number of every day items and shown how to draw them in a few bold lines and then put them together to create interesting scenes.

One of his aims is to encourage children who think they cannot draw to have a go. Once they are supported through the initial stages, they can forge ahead and discover their own creativity. More talented kids will gain inspiration and helpful ideas.

The books have 30 four-color pages, 8.75 X 6.75 ins, and are bound in stiff laminated boards.

About the Author:
"Brian Paine was born in England, and his early life was rich in self-exploration and domesticity. He freelanced as a graphic designer, wrote and illustrated some children’s books, and restored a number of 16-18th century country houses, as well as running an antique business for a few years. Realising that these activities were not wholly satisfying his creative urges and having involved himself in painting from time to time, he took a fine art course in London from 1980-83. During that period he enjoyed vacations in the States and realised how appealing the spaciousness and freedom of this country was to him. A fleeting visit to Mt Shasta, California made a deep impression - the energies from this sacred mountain being extremely compelling, and he knew he would have to return there.

His first paintings seemed to be imbued with the energy of Pan, the great god of nature, and friends started calling him Pan. Feeling somewhat uncomfortable with the name initially, he finally gratefully accepted it. After graduating from college and selling a large painting to one of his tutors, Pan decided to go to America. He traveled in the States for many months and visited Mexico and Guatemala, later returning to England. Whilst living there, he visited Italy where he met his present wife, Neera. She agreed to return to the States with him, and they settled near Mt Shasta, California, at the base of the mountain that had so attracted him earlier.
