His first paintings seemed to be imbued with the energy of Pan, the great god of nature, and friends started calling him Pan. Feeling somewhat uncomfortable with the name initially, he finally gratefully accepted it. After graduating from college and selling a large painting to one of his tutors, Pan decided to go to America. He traveled in the States for many months and visited Mexico and Guatemala, later returning to England. Whilst living there, he visited Italy where he met his present wife, Neera. She agreed to return to the States with him, and they settled near Mt Shasta, California, at the base of the mountain that had so attracted him earlier.
