During her time at the Guildhall, she maintained her interest in art, developing her natural feeling for botanical and natural history illustration - an affinity nurtured and encouraged by her father on childhood explorations of the Cotswold countryside.
Supplementing her college grant by selling some of her paintings to a London gallery, she was introduced by the owner to a major greetings cards publisher who was seeking a fresh and original design input. Kathryn's subsequent commission led to her designs being sought after by several substantial publishing firms. The vitality of her work, combined wit her love of natural history, led quite naturally to illustrating for children, and her work during the first three years demonstrates graphically her success in creating visions totally appropriate to a child's eye.
