About the Author:
Currently Gratia J. Banta devotes herself to painting and art cards at her studio in the Arts District of Portland, Maine. As a result of her creative programming as a children's librarian, for over twenty years, she has been asked to give "Reading the Pictures: The Art of the Picture Book" in college classes, at conferences and public libraries. What started as a slide talk is now a full-day workshop and power-point presentation. A member of ALA/ALSC for 18 years, she served on the 1988 Caldecott Committee. She has been nominated to run on the 2004 ALSC ballot for chair of the 2006 Caldecott Committee. She enjoys reviewing picture books for the Southern Maine Library District, and has reviewed for Booklist and School Library Journal.
