About the Author:

Anitra T. Steele is a children's specialist at Mid-Continent Public Library in Independence, Missouri. She trains librarians who are not children's specialists in the system's 29 branches. Coordinator of the summer reading program, she serves on the Missouri Youth Summer Library Program Committee. Former editor of the ALSC newsletter, she also contributed a chapter to Zena Sutherland's textbook, Children & Books (Addison-Wesley). The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association, is an organization that supports the profession of children's librarianship and is a leading authority on children's library services.
