Adolf Schlatter (1852–1938) was one of Europe’s most profound and productive biblical scholars since the Enlightenment. Born in Switzerland, he taught for over 50 years at prestigious universities like Bern, Berlin, and Tübingen. Though surprisingly unknown to Americans, his thought has been placed in the same category as that of Augustine, Calvin, and Luther. He authored more than 440 publications.

Andreas J. Köstenberger is director of doctoral studies and professor of New Testament and Greek at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina. He translated Adolf Schlatter’s two-volume theology of the New Testament into English and is editor of the Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society.

Robert W. Yarbrough is the translator of five German works, including three by Eta Linnemann and a biography of Adolf Schlatter. He has also contributed articles on Schlatter to reference works. He is coauthor of Encountering the New Testament and the author of The Salvation-Historical Fallacy?
