Book Description Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 20 photographs, 2910 Marks illustrated (illustrator). 1st. Slight fading of the spine on the dust wrapper, pages are very lightly toned. Pages are clean, binding is tight. From the inside flap: Shop labels and toy-makers' marks gradually appeared during the middle of the nineteenth century and by 1875 the Trademarks Registration Act enforced the registration of all trademarks at H.M. Patent Office. Gwen White, through her researches, extending over years, has re-drawn the thousands of toy marks which are here reproduced. Roughly 70 years are covered in which each mark has its authentic date, maker and address. There is also information on individual French and German makers, American manufacturers, agents and exporters and even toy shops. The list of toys, dolls and automata marks is an impressive one. Included are marks on aerial toys building bricks, construction toys, bisque-babies and china heads, porcelain toys, tea sets, musical toys, board games, parlour games and playing-cards, toy soldiers, mascots, educational games, small boats, engines, trains, diabolo and many outdoor pastimes. the catalogue could be indefinitely extended. In addition to the marks themselves there is a selection of photographs showing where on the toys appear. Seller Inventory # 002490
