From Booklist:
PreS-Gr. 2. Perfect for preparing very young children for an author's visit or launching a classroom bookmaking project, this title stands out within the extensive Start to Finish series. Tracing the evolution of Nancy Carlson's book It's Not My Fault! (2003), which was published by one of Lerner's imprints, Marshall Cavendish, gives children a good sense of the main stages a book passes through before it hits the shelves. The limited vocabulary isn't always up to the task of explaining the more technical processes ("Printing plates are like stamps" may leave some readers thinking of postage rather than instruments for ink transfer), but the early steps of writing, editing, and completing the artwork are concisely and accessibly presented. What will probably satisfy children most of all, though, are the photos that offer glimpses of an author-illustrator at work. Keep this volume on hand to pair with more extensive explorations of the topic, such as Janet Stevens' From Pictures to Words: A Book about Making a Book (1995). Jennifer Mattson

From School Library Journal:
PreSchool-Grade 2–This book describes how an author gets an idea for a picture book and develops and illustrates it. Also discussed is the publication process, from editing to printing to distribution. Each spread includes a color photograph on the right; the easy text opposite states the facts in an interesting manner. The story that actually goes from "idea to book" is Nancy Carlson's It's Not My Fault. This is never stated in the text, but is shown in the photographs. This title is useful as an introduction to student-made books. Both grade-level and reluctant readers may enjoy it in its curricular context.–Pamela K. Bomboy, Chesterfield County Public Schools, VA
