The human quest for tranquility and survival is often found in an \"inward vision\" and the heart's \"discovery\" that lead to knowing God. This traditional search for mystical truth, known as irfan, comes to life in The Mystery of Humanity. This book explores irfan and enlightens modern readers to the creation, existence, and eternity of human beings. It contains three texts: Nirvan, Message from the Soul, and Psalm of the Gods, all translated from the Persian. The Mystery of Humanity will impart to readers a thorough knowledge of irfan and an acquaintance of those persons who have indeed attained this higher state of existence.

From the Publisher:
This wise and gentle Sufi classic speaks in powerful parables of the journey of the soul. The three parts of the book -- "Nirvan", "Message from the Soul", and "Psalm of the Gods" -- are perfect mediums to unfold the essence of Sufism. Together, they reveal that true knowledge of God comes through discovery and cognition in one's heart. The resulting tranquillity that Professor Angha reveals is magnificently transcendent, while at the same time arising from the human being's deepest urge to be eternal.

The following paragraph starts on page 67 in the chapter "Message from the Soul".

Do you ever, in times of hardship, wonder who and where your savior is, and whence the light of God shines for you?

Look at the times our fathers have left behind and do not follow the path of injustice and false promises.

The load of our trials is now heavier than before, and the endurance and patience of our hearts for truth is much lighter.

Do not sell the jewels of your heart in return for fake coins. Do not put your inheritance of God at the feet of your desires. What hope is there for safety for he who is sinking helplessly in the middle of the swamp or quicksand?

Since you have cut the fruit of knowledge and severed the roots of truth from your hearts, I challenge you and declare that on the day of judgement the strength of the powerful, the wit of the thinkers, and the recklessness of the brave will not help, and everyone will be anxious about the results of his deeds. Only the pure and the humble will be saved.

The following paragraph starts on page 40 in the chapter "Nirvan".

An emergent being, without name or origin, moved through a new existence, while the spirit of consciousness remained hidden in him. Time had not yet acquired its dimensions.

'In eternity, foot-prints are hardly recognizable. During that distant period of time or timelessness, after I had either been living in nonentity or had been forced to walk along the path of existence into being, I reached the isolated rocks, where I found my nature. I was locked in its fortress, wherefrom the smell of death arose; and from whose walls blood and poison dripped, the hunger of avidity, which saturated the human nature, tasted as a delicious nectar to the earthly host.'

Eve, mother of the living, took Nirvan to her bosom, to foster his source of life.

The celestial man, who had become his own tyrant, fell from the quiet paradise into the abyss of illusion, the Devil's Temple, and moving back and forth across the flames of torment and contradictory desires, began to mold this brutal existence, while his sins assailed him continuously.

The following verse starts on page 85 in the chapter "Psalm of the Gods".

The heavens invite the appointed,
The wild tulips and the water lilies,
The pure and transparent running water,
The song of the birds,
The glory of the setting and the rising sun and moon upon the horizon
of the sea,
The splendor of the blossoms in spring,
The glittering of dew-drops upon the grass, and myriad other
manifestations,
Are the tranquil melodies of the Gods that are hidden by nature's
veils.
Oh, I wish that the pride of hearts would be shattered once again,
And truth would encompass the world,
And souls would shine like mirrors.
Until dawn the holy messengers whispered the realistic visions of the
Gods upon the sky of existence,
And gave power to the life of man.
