From the Back Cover:
They had it all ... Jim and Sally Hohnberger were young, educated, owners of a successful business, a beautiful home, expensive vehicles, and had a great reputation in their church. But underneath the veneer of success, Jim's life was busied, pushed, and stressed. His marriage was stale, his Christian experience was superficial, and he didn't know his children. Convinced that the pursuit of the "American Dream" was robbing them of an authentic walk with God, the Hohnbergers sold everything and set off for the Montana Wilderness in search of an "Enoch experience." What this family found forever changed their lives. And yours could be next. The book you hold in your hand is more than an interesting story. Much more! It is not an exaggeration to say that the concepts presented in Escape to God are revolutionary. The principle of soul-surrender will inspire and challenge you to the very core of your being. But if you're hungry for authentic Christian living and desperate for God to do a new thing in your life, you're ready for what this book has to say. Must you sell everything and move to Montana in order to find what the Hohnbergers found? No. But as you take the experiences presented here and make them your own, you will learn to walk in God's presence and develop a willingness to obey His voice no matter where you live. Through Jim and Sally's experience you will learn how less is more, how to make time for God and your family, and how to live every day, hour, and moment to the glory of God.
About the Author:
Raised in a mixed religious household I soon became bored and disillusioned with religion and desired to be a successful person making lots of money, owning a big fancy home and a lot of impressive automobiles. After graduating from college, I married my high school sweetheart and set out to enjoy the benefits that the world had to offer. Financial stress, social pressures and the never-ending anxiety of life soon opened my eyes to search for a better way of life.
As I pursued fundamental Christianity accepting a Bible-based life, doctrinal purity and lifestyle reform it didn't take long to find out that religion wasn't enough. I became a powerless Christian with all the trappings of a form of godliness.
At age 32 I sold a thriving business, a big beautiful log home on 40 park like acres and all my bright shiny vehicles and set out for the wilderness of Montana next to Glacier National Park to determine whether Christianity was real or a fraud. Could it be lived out behind closed doors? It was there, without the aid of man's form of religion and all its trappings that I found a power outside of myself that enables me to walk with God on a daily basis, revitalize my marriage and connect my children to God and God alone.
That power is the life of Christ in me. Authentic Christianity is available to every one of us, but it has to be pursued amidst all the layers of religiosity that tend to bring us short of the mark. We must rise above ordinary religion and nominal Christianity to find God!
