Each article is prefaced with a blurb on the historical event, the writer, and the periodical. Events, presented chronologically, include the Boston Tea Party, the fall of the Alamo, the death of Lou Gehrig, the assassination of John Kennedy, and Watergate. alWriters include John Adams, Alexander Hamilton, Mark Twain, Ring Lardner, Ernie Pyle, and John Steinbeck. It has been said that journalism is the first rough draft of history; these clippings reveal much about American history as well as the process of journalism.
