From the Inside Flap:
Jesus first asked the disciples to "Come, follow me," before he asked, "Who do you say that I am?" It is this aspect of knowing Christ by living in him that is explored in this book on Christology. Working from the perspective of people living in the social and cultural contexts of the United States, Father Mueller explores not so much how our world shapes our understanding of Christ as how our understanding of Christ should cause us to shape our world. This response to Christ is already occurring in Latin America, Africa, India, the Philippines, and other parts of the world. Christians there have lived Christ and are now proclaiming what they know. Their theologians are asking for the American experience of Christ to help complete the global conversation. Father Mueller here offers his contributions to what it means to be a disciple of Christ living in the United States. The book is divided into three parts. The first examines the terms of Christology and the United States context. The second takes eight constitutive themes of Jesus' message. Each theme is explained scripturally and then considered in a United States context; discussion questions end each section. The third part examines a theology of discipleship through the two organizing themes of spirituality and practical response. Its purpose is to systematize thinking into action.
