On a dark and windy night in October 2001, I listened to the wind rustling dried cornstalks and wondered, how would you spell that sound? Once I decided on cracklety-clack, the refrain came to me, Cracklety-clack, bones in a sack. They could be yours--if you look back.
Then the first lines came: On a windy night, on a winding road, a boy walks home with a heavy load. Creating the story from there was a wild ride that took years, but resulted in the rhyme--and theme-- I'm most proud of.
By reading this book, I hope children and adults will share the human experience of imagination run wild, whether for Halloween, on any dark, windy night, or any time encouragement to face down one's fears is needed.
