Smith (Boston) edition. A beatiful reproduction of what almost seems to be a training manual. I was fascinated by the variety of punishments desribed for (p. 145) disobeying orders. Deserters were shot - see diagram on page 158. Section on the army mule. The Charles W. Redd illustrations are worth the price of admission. Cond : Black cover has gilt lettering and is embossed. Part of the Collectors Library series. End-papers are patterned. Page edges are gilt. Comes with its own ribbon page-marker. Brilliantly clean, correct and collectible !
