About the Author:

John Wilkins has been editor of The Tablet, an international Catholic magazine, since 1982. In 1996 he won the John Harriott Memorial Prize for contributions to religious communication. He has been a writer and presenter for the BBC World Service as well as a visiting scholar at Clare College, Cambridge.

Selina O'Grady is a freelance writer from Great Britain, where she has also worked as a television and radio producer. She presently lives in California and has recently completed an anthology volume on experiences of faith.

This volume collects articles on 52 Christians who have exerted a strong influence on the last 1000 years, by as many authors. There are no real surprises among those chosen, with the possible exceptions of Bridget of Sweden and the Swami Abhishiktananda, Henri Le Saux, and the articles are on the whole capably written. This pleasing book has, ultimately, a British genesis: both of its principal editors are English in origin, though O'Grady now lives in California.
