Unfortunately, the black-and-white illustrations, while useful, make for a somewhat drab book. Garrett Hack's The Handplane Book (Taunton, 1997) is much more attractive but doesn't cover the construction of one's own planes or appear to be as useful to the average user. Comprehensive woodworking collections will want this title.
