You don’t have to feel driven any longer...

Allow an experienced counselor to show you the way to step off the treadmill of life and into a better, less driven way of living. Acknowledge that your relentless pursuit of happiness has only brought you unhappiness and you would like to live a different way.

CHANGE BEGINS WITH UNDERSTANDING WHY YOU ARE SO DRIVEN TO ACHIEVE AND ACCUMULATE:
· Are you trying to win acceptance, love, admiration by accumulating possessions?
· Are you still battling your parents’ expectations?
· Has your separation from God left a void in your life that you are trying to fill with stuff and frantic activity?
· Are you trying to atone for something you did or didn’t do?

Scott Walker uses his understanding of adult psychology and his experience as a counselor to show you how to make positive and lasting changes.

From the Publisher:
We are pleased to offer this latest book from Scott Walker. Scott’s appealing use of story and insight into human nature (and God’s nature) will help readers find a way out of their driven feelings.
From the Author:
Over the course of the last 25 years of being a pastor, I have been involved in a lot of counseling. My doctorate from the University of Georgia is in adult developmental psychology so I naturally gravitate to human dynamics and how this relates to theology. As I have listened to hundreds of people tell me their life story, I have been amazed at how common the theme of "unhealthy drivenness" is in their lives.

As I have analyzed why so many people experience a painful sense of urgency, anxiety, or drivenness in their lives, I have come to see some of the underlying dynamics which become the chapter headings for my book: a lack of parental blessing, unexpressed and unresolved secrets of shame, life-scripts that have been thrust upon us, the pain of relational separation, and the out of control desire to possess. These are the dynamics that I see most frequently in my life, as well as in the lives of others, which cause us to be driven, hounded, and harried people. Until we are able to recognize and better resolve these issues in our lives, we will not be able to experience contentment and peace in the midst of living.

From a spiritual standpoint I have also been able to see that it is the pain and the destructive consequences of our out-of-control drivenness that often leads us to the quest and discovery of God. As Augustine has said, "Restless are our hearts until they find their rest in Thee." So, the positive side of this book is that God often creatively works through our unhealthy drivenness to bring us to realize our need for God. Thus our painful crucifixions can become the means for us to discover resurrection and new life. . .the central motif of Christianity.

I wrote this book ultimately because I did not know of another book where these concepts are brought together under one book cover. I wanted to be able to place this book into the hands of others and say, "Here, read this, and see if you see yourself on any of these pages."
