She sees his corpus in terms of the powerless who are raging against the utterly implacable. Readers will be able to forgive her occasional sprinklings of the laudatory (brilliant, wonderful, superb), which tend to discredit her objectivity as a critic. The book is one of a series of critical studies of fiction for young adults, for which there is a need in general, although there is already a wealth of critical material on Cormier. However, those looking for still more critical material on Cormier will take to this bookit is ideal for the critical-minded in that Campbell's explications could be passionately argued by both supporters and detractors.
