From School Library Journal:
Grade 7 Up-- Formatted as a text book, each chapter is introduced by an "aim" and ends with review questions. Many of them are poor in that they require "yes" or "no" or cannot be answered with the information provided. The arrangement does make for a logical exposition, each chapter briefly but adequately dealing with one aspect of the problem. However, there is some choppiness that can lead to confusion, such as describing Thoreau and Carson as being of the same period. Noteworthy is the section on the Bush administration, emphasizing the gap between political rhetoric and action. The environmental groups listed in the appendix are described in detail. Quotations from "early conservationists" is another good feature. Our Poisoned Sky (Cobblehill, 1991) by Dolan is well researched and offers a better presentation. Gay's m Garbage and Recycling (Enslow, 1991) covers many of the same issues and is unequivocally a library book. --Meryl Silverstein, American Museum of Natural History, New York City
