This presents basic information for cancer patients; diagnosis and staging, treatment, and brief discussions of specific types of cancers. There are good chapters on coping, although necessarily less comprehensive than Bruning's Coping with Cancer ( LJ 4/15/85). Appendixes include a list of questions to ask the physician, drugs which interfere with treatment, a reference guide for further information, and a glossary. The author emphasizes the need for specialist (oncologist) care. A basic item, straightforward and clearly written, but the American Cancer Society Cancer Book ( LJ 7/86) is more comprehensive for the same material. Buy for need in public libraries.Jean E.
