I had been waiting a very long time to do this book, and when I started writing it, I wanted it to be useful to a broad audience. You know how there are scores (at least) of field guides and tourist guides to birds, butterflies, shells, mammals, and flowers? Well, there was no such book for lizards on a worldwide scale. Imagine you want to take a cruise in the Caribbean, or do an eco-trek in Costa Rica, or get to drive-through the Australian Outback, and you would like a general, non-technical reference book that can give you some insight into the lizards you are likely to see. Until my "Guide to Lizards" there was no such traveler-friendly book.

So who was I writing for? Lizard lovers (novice and otherwise), of course! I first thought about eco-tourists and other travelers interested in local wildlife. Reptile keepers are a major audience, for who has kept lizards without wanting to someday go see them in the wild? Armchair naturalists have a lot of travelers tales to read, so I wanted to offer them the COLOUR of these wonderful animals. With over 300 species depicted in colour, about 70 of them for the first time, all of those audiences should find something to enjoy in the "Guide to Lizards"! So read, browse, and enjoy!
