From Booklist:
PreS-K. Dogs' many-muzzled personalities are paid fond tribute in this companion to Nobody's Nosier Than a Cat (2003). As in that book, Bartoletti constructs her verses around quite a few newly minted adjectives, which tumble across the pages with the same leaping energy as the animals they describe: "Nobody's naggier than a dog--a slurp-your-face, a let's-play-chase dog. / Nobody's waggier than a dog--a meet-'n'-greet, belly-up, rub-a-dub dog." Each spread focuses on a different dog demonstrating a typical canine behavior (or "toilet-drink, breathy-stink" misbehavior), but recurring characters, a cat pursued by a dachshund pursued by a dogcatcher, appear in every scene. Bartoletti's freewheeling text finds suitably energetic expression in Giacobbe's stylized artwork, which manages to seem perky despite a color palette of predominantly oranges, olives, and browns. Kids and adults alike will smile in recognition of the "guard-the-yard" dog's valiance, a "thunder-crack, scaredy-cat, run-and-hide" dog's utter pathos, and a "lift-the-limb" dog's brazen nonchalance as it "waters" the tire of a parked car. An affectionate, uncensored view of dogs doing their doggy thing. Jennifer Mattson

From School Library Journal:
PreSchool-Grade 2 - Bouncy, alliterative phrases describe the characteristics of all kinds of canines in this humorous ode to man's best friend: "Nobody's/diggier/than a dog - /a bury-the-bone dog,/a shake-a-paw dog." Or "Nobody's/mightier/than a dog - /a ruff-'n'-tumble dog,/a guard-the-yard dog." The short verses are just right for sharing aloud with young children and easy enough for beginning readers to handle on their own. The paintings tell their own story as a dachshund chases a black cat through each of the single- and double-page scenes. This pooch is pursued by a dogcatcher, sought after by its young owner, and finally reunited with the boy at the end of the book. Done in flat colors, the cartoon artwork features many different breeds engaged in a variety of activities, from playing fetch, to rolling in the mud, to riding on a fire truck. The action-packed illustrations are as exuberant as the text. A lively and engaging picture book for young dog lovers. - Sally R. Dow, Ossining Public Library, NY
