"Why does Mama Monster have more time for Bruxley and Bronwen than for me?" he asks his pet "beasties"--a trio of small animal companions. The sibling rivalry, and the message, is well-trod territory. What stands out here are the scribbly-lined, ink-and-paint pictures of the endearing monsters and their cozy, cluttered lair, and the fanciful text, with its reassuring refrain that Mama's love is as high "as a mountain, as wide as outside, and deeper each day, even when you are sulky and snarly."
